Never Retire - But, Do Take a Break

I can't imagine that many PR Squared readers are frequent visitors to Saks 5th Avenue --- the one that is actually on 5th Avenue, in NYC --- but if you are, or were ever there in the last 50-odd years, you just might recall the odd sight of a little old lady working behind the counter. She was about 5 feet tall with a big sweet smile and a lightning-blonde pouf of wispy hair. That was my great-aunt, Miriam. She worked at Saks for forever, but after she turned 80-something someone gently suggested she might want to take an extended break. She retired with little fanfare.

And unfortunately she passed away last week, not much more than a year later. Rest in peace, Aunt Miriam.

My lesson? Find work you enjoy, and then don't stop working.

But do take breaks. That's what I'll be doing after today. Taking the family to D.C. to see some monuments and visit old friends. I hate to disappoint the new RSS subscribers with a note like this, but I won't be posting again until after the 4th of July holiday. Enjoy the fireworks!

Great advice Todd. Enjoy your break.

Enjoy the mayhem here in D.C. Nothing like the 4th in the nation's capital.

Hopefully the weather holds out, we've been taking a beating.

Thanks guys. And Mike, I certainly hope the rain stops! As it is, my history-buff daughter is crushed that they closed the Natl Archive - no viewings of the Constitution!

Praying for sunshine and low humidity...

Hello Todd,
hope the weather clears up and you will enjoy the trip to the Capital (and Capitol as well).

Thanks for the advise too. We have two national holidays next week so there will hopefully be some nice time off. Looking forward to next friday. We will kjeep a mens only watch over the office with playstation, big screen tv and few bottles of Jack. Should be fun for a working day.

To make up for not being able to take your daughter to see the Constitution, I can try to see if I can get your family on a Pentagon tour. I can't guarantee because this is the busiest time of year, but I can try. No 200-year-old documents here, but still a great place to visit. If you are interested, let me know.

Todd, just wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you're able to enjoy the time with your family.

I hope you have a terrific trip. I lived in DC for 13 years and will be there in a few weeks for business. My brother says it has been quite a ride there waetehr-wise. Here in San Antonio we could use the rain.
