Advertising That (Finally) Speaks to Me
Gawd, how many times can we see the same old car commercial?
The sleek sportscar streaks through some hairpin turns alongside a spectacular coastline. The SUV powers through some mud. The 4x4 powers through some mud, too – but while hauling something ridiculously heavy. ZZZZZZZZ…
You want to capture the attention of a 20 to 30–something guy? Do it this way:
Kudos to the Toyota ad team. (And hat-tip to the Other Todd.)

I saw this ad yesterday on a gamer blog and had a laugh that tugged at the nerdy part of my heart as a WoW player. Looks like Toyota is successfully taking a page out of Red vs. Blue and South Park's book in terms of getting their audience's attention with machinima.

That commercial is just perfect. When a company can go inside the space and humor the community - that's getting it. So many companies get bombed for going in doing a crappy campaign.
LOVE IT. Thanks Todd

Huh? There's another Todd?
I've always tuned out the ads on TV from 7:55 - 8:00 p.m. because if you flip from network to network, guess what? They're all the predictable auto commercials. Booooooriiiiinnggg!
But what we've got here is something that, despite the medium, managed to break through the clutter. It provides something unexpected. And it entertains. More than that, it doesn't even heavily pimp the product it's supposed to be promoting.
And now, look: it's all over the Internet.
Someone at Toyota's agency is doing some great thinking.

It's genious because it hits the target audience and the amount of people who play world of warcraft is immense.
