Introducing the TwitRelease
Wish I’d thought of this…
Found this press release via John Paczkowski and, via a quick wordcount, realized that this Softbank/iPhone deal could have been announced via Twitter, with 17 character spaces to spare!

This is something small that could herald the start of something big.

You'll still have to shave off a few characters, assuming you're directing it to someone's handle like @micropr...

UM, where's the beef? Or at least a link to more information? Shouldn't something like this lead to a full SMR or regular release at least?

It's a good idea but when you start including hash tags etc you quickly run out of characters. I live in hope that one of the releases I'm scraping/shovelling into twitter (/hmgov) might actually fit the character limit one day

I truly don't get the value here. How is this different from a tweet that says:
Softbank Mobile struck a deal to bring the iPhone to Japan
?

Gang - It's not *really* for Twitter, the beauty is the utter lack of B.S. Thus, sure, this minuscule amount of content could lead to a set of links, etc.

I think the important and relevant thing here has to do with making your message brief and concise enough that it is relevant to reporters, potential customers, whatever. The twitter model forces marketers to put as much power and punch as possible behind a quick, to-the-point message. Hopefully we can catch on, and eliminate some of the BS that press releases are (in)famous for.

May there's a computer glitch and that's just the headline? Rest of press release got dropped?

this is great, now we have a press release in crisp, short to the point and in 140 characters.

I knew it. The Twit Pitch came, and now it's the Twit release. Makes my job easier, but I don't know what my oh-so-traditional PR professors would think if I turned this in! :) Thanks for the info, T.
