Entering the “Light Blogging” Period
It’s the end of the year. There are a lot of ways to deal with end-of-year blogging.
My plan for this year-end period was to expound on my contributions to Peter Kim’s Social Media Predictions 2009 project. And I still might do that, if time permits.
But the holiday crush is upon us all. I feel as if we are all careening into the New Year, don’t you? Finishing up on work projects (or wondering what could be put-off to January!), wrapping presents, shoveling snow, worrying about the recession, prepping for visits to/from relatives, decorating the house, etc.
In addition to all-of-the-above, the Defren family just got a new pup (pictured) — a 2–year old collie/golden retriever mix from Save-A-Dog, an organization we’ve supported as foster parents for a while. This gal walked in the door as just-another-foster but immediately captured the high ground. Adorable, eh? We’re still working on names … which presents yet another year-end distraction!
So can we agree to take a li’l break from Social Media? Re-connect, re-energize, relax? I might still be inspired to blog before the New Year, but hey, even if I do write something, the posts will still be in your RSS reader in January, so don’t feel the need to check-in until you’re ready.
I hope you have a splendid, worry-free, quiet and fun holiday!

Congrats on the pup. When we rescued our Boxer three years ago, we chose Callie as her name, as an homage to our time in SF. Just an approach, if you’re needing inspiration.
Happy holidays!
What a cutie! I just rescued a Beagle a few months back – named her Penny. Every dog I’ve ever owned has been named after a song…lots of inspiration there as well.
See you in the new year…
Our pets have always been rescue pets, so here’s a great big attaboy for saving a dog (and it doesn’t hurt that she’s as cute as she is). Right now, we’ve had our cat for seven years (from a box in a grocery store parking lot) and our dog for six (from Tony LaRusso’s Animal Rescue Foundation). It’s definitely the way to go.
Enjoy the holidays and your “light blogging” break. My two vizslas are both rescues, and they are awesome dogs.
Love the dog! So jealous! Enjoy her for those of us who don’t *yet* have a dog!
what a fine-looking dog! i’m so happy for you. christmas day will mark one year since my fiancee and i rescued our lab-golden retriever mix charlie from a shelter in central missouri.
in fact, charlie is asleep right next to my chair at the moment.
best wishes to you and yours over the holidays. can’t wait to see what you have in store for 2009.
cheers,
matt

Great looking pup. We adopted a Alaskan Malamute from AMRONE in August and named him Holden. Our last three were Teddy, Franny and Zoey. All mal’s and all rescues.
Re: Twitter…ChrisBrogan outed you over there, that’s probably why you had a massive influx of followers… but I liked your blog too…anyone who rescues animals is worth following in my book! (we have 2 rescued pups, and I’d have 50 if I had the space)
Thanks for the useful / interesting info over the year. Good luck for ‘09.
Just like you, I go forever with out reading RSS. My view is, if it’s important at all, It will hit my twitter stream.
