The bidding wars for talent weren&#039;t as pronounced here in Houston as they were in other parts of the country, I&#039;m sure, but at the same time, I knew some young professionals who made out like bandits.  They were able to earn double what they had been making -- basically &quot;skipping over&quot; 10 or more years of hard work to get to that salary level.

For them, a great situation.  But we lost some good folks because we simply couldn&#039;t compete.
