Mini Review of Google+
Here is my very mini review of Google+. This has nothing to do with “the marketer’s opportunity” (that’s coming!) but more about functionality…
So: Google+. It’s everything you wanted to share on Twitter but required more than 140 characters … It’s everything you would have shared on Facebook before you accepted every goddamned Friend Request and polluted your own stream.
Functionality-wise, G+ is too similar to Facebook to be compelling, IMHO. What’s compelling is the concept of a fresh start; a chance to “do it right this time.”
Is that enough to woo 750M Facebook users (so many of whom are late tech adopters) to join the 20M or so on G+? Not anytime soon. G+ is the early adopter’s playground for the foreseeable future … which, by the way, makes it interesting and compelling in a wholly different way. I’m still pondering that part. Meanwhile, I urge you to check it out and experiment. Let me know in the comments if you need an invite!

Could you send me an invite, too, Todd? Thanks…
Not sure if Google+ be a Twitter killer. People don’t have a problem knowing what to share — even if it is sometimes banal. As to whether its good enough to woo Facebook users I will have to leave that to my trials – I’d like invite if you have any spare. Thanks in advance.
I think my initial problem would be what to share on Google. Scale could be an issue as well early on. But I agree, it would be nice to have a “reboot” without all the “fringe” Facebook friends I’ve collected. Would love an invite if you have an extra one. Thanks Todd.
I would like a password if you have any extras, Todd. Thank you!
When I first heard of Google+ I wasn’t interested–social media already sucks up too much of my time. Since then I’ve seen a lot of reviews like yours, and I’ll admit I’m curious. If you can, please send me an invite.
Todd,
I set up an account, but it is now just one more thing I have to do… Frankly I don’t want to start over, I have things the way I want them and I feel that just because there is another avenue doesn’t mean we have to take it. I think I am sticking with what I have unless the entire world shifts.
I would like an invite if you have extras! Thanks and best regards, KN.
While we continue to discuss the hammer, there will be a new shiny hammer that will move us to discuss that. The challenge of connecting a network is it can become a lot of connections to manage. Empire Avenue? Quora? Hello?
I wonder how many people who “connect” to us even know where we live or what we do. Ha! I await a social network that features trapezoids. That will revolutionize everything! Oh and a puppy for each of us.
It’s hard to get used to the ability to share different things with different people. Since Google+ doesn’t want us making business profiles just yet, the people at our company have just made personal profiles. Yet the format just doesn’t seem fitting for updates such as, “I just ate the best sandwich!” nor “Check out this fascinating article from _____.”
Is anyone else struggling with what to post on Google+?
I would like an invite too. Would be good to see how it really compares from a usability perspective.
